Life story Mrs. Nancy Lou Cheatham, age 75, of Madison, passed away on Friday December 25, 2009 at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana. Born July 25, 1934 in New Albany, Indiana, she was the daughter of Chester and Elaine (Turner) Slider. After raising her children, Mrs. Cheatham returned to college and earned her bachelors degree at Hanover College and masters of education degree Indiana University Southeast. She retired from Madison Consolidated High School after 19 years teaching special education. After retirement, she continued to teach at the Scott County Schools-Englishton Park and part-time in Madison schools. Before teaching at Madison she taught at the Carroll County Schools. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Elks Lodge, and Daughters' of the American Revolution. She was an avid IU basketball and PGA golf fan and enjoyed the beach and playing euchre. She especially enjoyed her family and grandchildren. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa K. and Montane Liter of Madison; three sons: Robert Dirk Cheatham and his wife Nancy of Madison, Michael L. Cheatham of Madison, and Kevin Douglas Cheatham and his wife Carla of Madison; six grandchildren: Justin Motenko, Hunter Liter, Mitchell Liter, Kevin Douglas Cheatham, Jr. and his wife Jennifer, Derek Anthony Cheatham and his wife Dijana, and Carson Lee Cheatham; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert "Buck" Cheatham on Sept. 8, 1990 and whom she married on Jan. 27, 1952 at the First Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Steven Wayne Cheatham on May 3, 1952. The Reverend Randy Crutchfield will conduct funeral services at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the First Baptist Church, with interment to follow in Springdale Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Chapel from 5 to 8 PM Tuesday and at the church from 1PM until time of service Wednesday. The family requests memorial contributions to be made to the First Baptist Church Organ Restoration Fund. Memorial envelopes are at the funeral home.
