Obituary

Life story Mr. Neal Cahall, age 88, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2006 at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on December 30, 1917 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of the late Roy E. and Carrie (Neal) Cahall. Mr. Cahall grew up in Cincinnati and graduated from the University of Cincinnati School of Pharmacy. He then entered the United States Army during World War II, and became a member of the 1520th Service Command Unit Station Hospital Section. He was honorably discharged on January 18, 1946 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana at the rank of sergeant. During his military service, Mr. Cahall met his future wife, the former Delta Denny in 1945 when she was a secretary at the former Jefferson Proving Ground. They were married on March 18, 1946. Mrs. Cahall preceded him in death on December 8, 1999. He was currently working as a relief pharmacist at several regional drugstores, and formerly owned and operated the Harper's Rexall Drugstore on East Main Street in downtown Madison. He retired and closed the store in 1981. He was baptized in 1999 in his wife's hospital room just before she died and became a member of the North United Methodist Church. He also was a member of Jefferson Post #9, American Legion, the Indiana and Kentucky Boards of Pharmacy, a Kentucky Colonel and a former Jefferson County deputy coroner. He was an avid reader, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends on the boat dock, fishing, hunting, feeding the birds and deer, and pleasure boating. Mr. Cahall formerly co-owned the race boat Geronimo and was involved in the early stages in the formation of the Miss Madison racing team. Survivors include his daughter, Gina Ochs of San Diego, California; his sons, Terry Cahall of Madison and Kim Cahall and his wife Brenda, of Madison; his sister, Jean Noblett of San Francisco, California; four grandchildren: Shane Cahall of Madison, Brandi Mundt of Hanover, and Jesse Ochs and Cody Ochs, both of San Diego; five great grandchildren; two nieces; and two additional members of the family, Marilyn McQueen of Madison and Greg Canada of San Diego, California. The Reverend Randy Jungkurth will conduct memorial services following cremation at 12:00 Noon Thursday, January 19, 2006 at the North United Methodist Church, with interment in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The Honor Guard of Jefferson Post #9, American Legion, will conduct full military honors at the cemetery. Friends may call at the Lytle Funeral Chapel from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday, January 18, 2006. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the North United Methodist Church or the donor's choice. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home and the church.
