Obituary

Life story Norma Jean Ashby, age 68, of 208 Lincoln Avenue, Madison, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at her residence, where she has resided for the past 17 years. Born March 27, 1936 in Jefferson County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Nicholas "Ted" and Alice May (Anderson) Wyne, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles N. Ashby, Sr. in 1974; one son, Charles "Chuck" Ashby, Jr., in 1991, and infant twin granddaughters, Andrea and Angela Ashby. Mrs. Ashby worked as a certified nurses aide for 20 years at Muscatatuck State Hospital in Butlerville, retiring in 2002. She was a member of the Brooksburg Baptist Church and a former member of the former Eagles Lodge, Madison. She loved yard sales, photography, gardening, reading, and "doing lunch", especially at Hinkle's in downtown Madison. Survivors include two daughters: Gail Johnson, and her husband Dale, of Madison, and Melinda Liter, and her fiance, Tim Mathieu of Wildwood, Florida; three sons: Charles Robert Ray Ashby, and his wife, Michelle of Jacksonville, Florida, Dale Herman Ashby, and his wife Karen, of Hanover, and Bruce Allen Ashby of Madison; one sister and her husband, Delores and Delbert Bruther of Hanover; two brothers and their wives: Nick and Doris Wyne of Madison, and Garrold and Mary Ann Wyne of Lexington, Indiana; fifteen grandchildren: Tonya and Clifton Liter, Charles, Rebecca, Audrey, Jennifer and Natasha Ashby, Jeremiah and Bruce Johnson, Susan and David Canfield, Jeremy Garcia, Booker Matthieu, Jamie Cox, Jr., and Daniel Huffman; seven great grandchildren: Candance Taylor, Byonka Baker, Rebecca Lasseter Ashby, Keegan Canfield, Christina and Amanda Blair, and expecting the seventh great grandchild later this year. The Reverend James Sparks will conduct funeral services at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, February 12, 2005 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel, with interment in Moffett Cemetery, Milton, Kentucky, at a later time. Friends and family may call at Lytle Funeral Chapel from 4 to 8 P.M. on Friday, February 11, 2005 and after 12:00 Noon on Saturday. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the National Children's Cancer Fund, 1015 Locust, Suite 600, Saint Louis, Missouri 63101. Cards will be available at the funeral home.
