Life story Mr. Otha Garrett, age 80, of Madison, passed away on Monday, July 26, 2010 at the Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover. Born July 25, 1930 in Waddy, Kentucky, he was the son of Landon, Sr. and Dorothy Cheek Garrett. Mr. Garrett was a 1949 graduate of Waddy High School, and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, having been stationed in Germany. He moved to Madison in 1955, and worked for the former Western Auto and Madison Radio Service for many years. He founded Garrett's TV and Appliances in Madison, and owned and operated that store until his retirement in 2002. He was a member of Saint John's United Church of Christ, and had been active in the Boy Scouts and Eggleston PTA, and was a Past Commander of VFW Post #1969. Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Lisa Garrett of Madison; four grandchildren: Michelle James and her husband, Matt of Carmel, Indiana, Andrew Garrett and his wife, Alex of Carmel, Jesse Garrett and MacKenzie Garrett, both of Waterloo, Indiana; one great-granddaughter, Madelyn James of Carmel; one brother, Ralph Garrett and his wife, Tylene of Shelbyville, Kentucky; one sister, Lucille Rains of Louisville, Kentucky; two sisters-in-law: Perry Garrett of Bardstown, Kentucky and Doris Staples and her husband, Kenneth of Bedford, Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, the former Mary Ann Smith, to whom he was married on January 15, 1955 in Madison, and who passed away on January 30, 2010; two sons: Jeffrey and Michael Garrett; one daughter-in-law, Ann Garrett; one brother, Landon Garrett, Jr.; one sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Joseph Pessarelli; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gloria and Bud Hudson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jackie and William Smith, Jr.; one nephew, Frank Smith; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Evelyn and William Smith, Sr.; and several aunts and uncles. Memorial services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel. Friends may call from 4:30 to 7:00 PM Wednesday.
