Life story Philip R. George, age 75, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2010 at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison. Born July 8, 1934 in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was the son of John W. and Edna Johnson George. Mr. George was a graduate of Southport High School in Indianapolis, and the General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan, earning a Bachelors Degree in Engineering. He worked for the GM Allison Division in Indianapolis, the Betus Atomic Power Company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Inland Container in Indianapolis and Houston, Texas. He moved to Madison in 1971 and retired after being in sales for Madison Chemical, Tower Manufacturing and Robus Industries. He and his wife, Judy, co-owned and operated The Attic on Main Street for thirty-nine years. He was an Eagle Scout, and enjoyed traveling, snorkeling, and golf. His greatest joy was sharing his life with family, co-workers, and friends. He was a devoted husband. Survivors include his wife, the former Judith L. List, to whom he was married on August 20, 1955 in Southport, Indiana; one daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Larry Truax of Madison; two sons: John George of Indianapolis and Chip George of Madison; his grandchildren: Jennifer Miles and her husband, Chaffee, Brent Warren and his wife, Lindsay, Emily Curry and her husband, Lance, Jonathon, Mikayla, Lily, John Paul and Antonio George, Andrew and Ben Griffith, Carrie and Chad Truax, and Stacey Smith and her husband, Joe; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, David George in 2006, and one brother, Richard George. Memorial services will be conducted by Mr. Bill Ohlendorf and Pastor Terry Glasgow at 3:00 PM Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel. Friends and family may call from 12 Noon to 3:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home. The family requests contributions be made to the Curtis Wright Memorial Scholarship Fund or the Madison Riverfront Development Project. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
