Life story Mrs. Phyllis A. Hallgarth, age 73, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at Thornton Terrace in Hanover, Indiana. Born on August 27, 1935 in Brooksburg, Indiana, she was the daughter of Nathan and Kathryn Alexander Drennen. Mrs. Hallgarth worked in retail sales all of her life, having been employed by Hertz Shoe Store and Northside Liquors, and the former Lodge Hardware and former Schultz Brothers Shoe Store, all in downtown Madison. Mrs. Hallgarth was always glad to lend a helping hand to her wonderful friends and neighbors. She loved to travel and go on trips to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. She took pride in her family, home and appearance and was a wonderful mother. She loved Joel Olsteen on TV, listening to Gospel music, and living near the Ohio River. Survivors include three daughters: Paula Potter and her husband, David, of Madison, Melinda Klopp and her companion, Mike Hess of Hanover, and Debra Rucker and her husband, Randy of Aurora, Indiana; two sons: Buck Hallgarth and his wife, Donna, and Jon Hallgarth and his wife, Denine, all of Madison; three sisters: Janet Drennen, Jean Helton and Penny Wells, all of Madison; her step-mother, Virginia Drennen of Madison; four grandchildren: Paul J. and Ryan Geyman, Erin Lange and Tyler Klopp; one great grandchild, Riann Geyman; her companion of many years, Marvin Fallis; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Audrey Perry, and one brother, Tim Drennen. Chris Perry will conduct memorial services at 7:00 PM Thursday, April 30, 2009 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel. Friends and family may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home.
