Pierson R. Gilbert, Jr. "Rick" passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family. A devoted husband to Martha for over 48 years and a proud father to Dru, JP, Marcy, Daniel (and his wife Erin), and Jacqueline (and her husband Todd Overpeck), he lived his life with a generous heart, integrity, humor, and endless love for those around him. More than anyone, Rick loved himself some Rick.

Rick would not have wanted an obituary written and posted on his behalf. He knew it might reveal the real him - the man who could never quite master Catch Phrase and was always proud of finding pork chops on sale. He would hate missing the chance to give us advice every sentence along the way. That advice was often delivered from his favorite recliner, wearing comfy pants, with an old western playing in the background. All the while, he was happy to offer his opinion on the day's meal and reminisce about feats of strength - on a horse, in a boat, or on a great business deal. Anyone who spent time with him has a "Rick story" or two, and he would want those stories to live on.

As much as he loved his wife and children, nothing compared to the joy of being one of his grandchildren. He loved them unconditionally and was intentional about being present in their lives - watching performances, advising on how to hit a fastball, reminding them they were loved, and building their confidence every chance he could. Grandpa Gilbert was always there to help them become the best versions of themselves. To him, each of his grandchildren was a prized possession.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends, whose lives are forever better because of him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation.
