Obituary

Life story Reverend Robert E. "Bob" Lutz, age 83, of Bloomington, Indiana, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Bell Trace Health and living Center in Bloomington. He was born October 7, 1932 in Lexington, Indiana, the son of Chester and Flora (Marshall) Lutz. Reverend Lutz was a 1950 graduate of Hanover High School. He entered the United States Air Force on January 17, 1952 in Indianapolis, Indiana, and was honorably discharged as an Airman First Class on January 16, 1956 at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida. He worked for his father at the Standard Oil Company in Madison, and as a salesman and claims adjustor for the former Belkap Hardware Company in Louisville. In 1969, he graduated from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville and entered the ministry. He served as pastor of Baptist churches in Friendship, Crothersville, Midland, Gosport and Indianapolis, Indiana, and Saint Cloud, Florida. He also served as a nursing home administrator in Kokomo. He moved to Bloomington in 1985 served as an interim pastor in Hartsville, Indiana, and as pastor of Woodhaven Christian Church in Bloomington. He also worked with Bender Lumber Company in Bedford, Indiana, and served for twelve years as the chaplain for Red Bud Hills Retirement Center and Monroe County, Indiana Sheriff's Department. Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, the former Barbara L. Royce, to whom he was married on April 18, 1954 at the First Baptist Church, Madison; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Gary Moser, and Tamara and Art Hanson, all of Bloomington; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Melinda Lutz of New Albany, Indiana; four grandchildren: Danny Martin and his wife, Shannon, Staff Sgt. Bill Martin, Sr. and his wife, Caitlin, Chrystal Klocek and her husband, Jason, and Dakota Lutz; four great grandchildren: Londyn Klocek, and Braydan Martin, Billy Martin, Jr. and Thomas Martin; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Betty Lou Lutz, Virginia Taflinger and Mary Helen Abbott; and one brother, Oliver Lutz. The Reverend Donald Pierce will conduct funeral services at 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the Bloomington Baptist Church, 111 South Kimble Drive, Bloomington, Indiana. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Madison by the Honor Guards of the United States Air Force and Jefferson Post #9, American Legion. Interment will follow. Friends and family may call at the Bloomington Baptist Church from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM Wednesday.
