Life story Mr. Richard G. "Dick" Hans, age 82, formerly of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at his residence in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Born on May 27, 1929 in Madison, he was the son of John C. and Dora E. Crutchlow Hans. Mr. Hans was a research scientist with The Pillsbury Company for more than forty years. He had multiple patents for processes delaying with processed dough, including one that led to the development of Grand's biscuits. He was a member a member of the American Association of Cereal Chemists, a distinguished member of Who's Who Worldwide and received many awards over the years for his attention to quality and excellence. He was a veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the Wooddale Church in Minnesota. He is survived by one daughter, Liz Hans; one son and daughter-in-law: Rick and Deenna Hans; one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Peggy Hans of Madison; one sister, Ellen Trowbridge of Dupont, Indiana; three grandchildren: Katie, Becca and Kimmy; nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Hans was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Martha L. Dawson Hans and Doris Shaw Hans; and a brother-in-law, Glen E. Trowbridge, Jr. Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 AM (Central Time) on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the Summitt Place Assisted Living facility, 8505 Flying Cloud Drive, Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Calling hours will be held beginning one hour prior to the service. A reception will follow. Interment will be in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
