Obituary

Life story Mrs. Rita A. Cline, age 87, passed away Thursday November 4, 2010 at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison. Rita was a native of Billings, Montana; living her formative years in New Marion, Indiana with her Father and Step Mother, Mr. and Mrs. John E. Holzer. She graduated from New Marion High School, performing on the cheer-leading team four years, then serving her Country as a member of the security department at Jefferson Proving Ground during World War II. Rita married Trooper Robert Cline at the Methodist Parsonage on Madison's West Main Street March 18, 1948, Reverend Frank Templin officiating; then followed her husband's employment to several sectors of Indiana mandated by State Police operations. While living 30 years in Richmond, Rita participated in a number of business and social activities, one being a top real estate sales person for which friends labeled her "Mayor" of the west side. She was an accomplished creator of stained glass items, pursued fishing plus pistol/rifle shooting with a life long membership in the National Rifle Association. Rita loved Madison, and when retirement arrived for her and her husband she found their niche in downtown Madison and began attending Prince of Peace Catholic Church on East Second Street, but the "Light of her Life" was her daughter Amanda. She is survived by her husband, retired State Police Colonel Robert Cline of Madison; daughter, Amanda Ferris of Greenfield, granddaughter, Heather Guntrum of Carmel, two great-grandchildren, Ethan Robert and Eva Marie Guntrum. She had two step sisters: Rosella Holzer of Versailles, Indiana and Marge Downer of Molt, Montana. Memorial services will be conducted at 6:00 PM Sunday, November 7, 2010 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel. Friends may call from 3:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday. Burial will take place Monday at the Greendale Cemetery in Osgood, Indiana. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Prince of Peace Catholic Church or the King's Daughters' Hospital, 3 South Unit. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home.
