Obituary

Robert "Bob" E. Gotts, age 97, of Madison, Indiana entered this life on January 14, 1927 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He was the son of the late Durand R. and Rose E. Banninger Gotts. Robert entered the United States Army in 1945 from Kingston, Michigan during World War II. He was honorably discharged on November 27, 1946 from Fort Dix, New Jersey with the rank of Technician 5th Grade, having served in the 39th Signal Corp receiving the World War II Victory Medal. Following his discharge, he returned to Michigan where he continued his education and earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, February 1952, from The University of Michigan. Robert then joined his family in Elk Rapids, Michigan, where he began his career as a Chemist at Munson Hospital in Traverse City, Michigan. While working at the hospital he met the love of his life and was united in marriage for more than fifty years to nurse Marjorie "Margie" A. (Bryan) Gotts who passed away on December 31, 2013. Robert and his late wife, Margie, relocated to southeast Indiana in 1966 where he worked until retirement as a Chemist at the Muscatatuck State Hospital. He took great pride in raising his family of five children on a small farm in Friendship, Indiana. In 1992, he and his wife had chosen Madison to spend their final years enjoying life at the dream home they designed, landscaped, and had built with family and friends. Robert was a very kind and caring person. He loved and deeply respected nature, regularly visiting state and national parks, camping, canoeing, and trout fishing. He enjoyed gardening, making homemade wine, playing tennis, photographing his family and flowers. Robert passed peacefully at his home in Madison, Indiana on Sunday, January 5, 2025. A Loving Family Robert will be missed by his children: Kathryn (Tim) Clayton of Commiskey, Indiana; Thomas (Sandy) Gotts of Arlington, Washington; Susan (Russell Linville) Sizemore of Madison, Indiana; and David (Melissa) Gotts of North Vernon, Indiana; ten grandchildren (Derrick, Joshua, Shane, Tim Jr., Neil, Rosie, Alec, Jordan, Roger, Kayla); and fourteen great grandchildren (Joshua, Kyle, Jon, Autumn, Lennon, Jerry, Maggie, Alder, Eleanor, Sienna, Carter, Emma, Oaklee, Bo); his brothers, Richard (Mary Lou) Gotts of Elk Rapids, Michigan; Tom (Inez) Gotts of Elk Rapids, Michigan; and John (Johanna) Gotts of Lewiston, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Durand and Rose Gotts; his sister, Rose Marie (Gotts) Riffe; his wife, Marjorie (Bryan) Gotts, and his daughter, Linda (Gotts) Wood. Services Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 6, 2025 at the Hebron Baptist Church, 6968 Graham Road, Madison, Indiana with interment to follow in the Hebron Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the United States Army and the Major Samuel Woodfill Post #9, American Legion. A celebration of life will be held afterwards for all family and friends at the Gotts home.
