Life story Mr. Robert C. "Bob" Hoffman, age 94, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison. He was born on August 10, 1914 in Jefferson County, Indiana, the son of M.J. and Clara Hunger Hoffman. Mr. Hoffman retired after forty years as owner and operator of the Hoffman Oil Company of Madison. He was also a former Jefferson County Commissioner and Madison Township Trustee, having served in elected office for twenty-four years. He was a lifelong farmer and animal lover. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 934 and a Fourth Degree member of the Prince of Peace Assembly; the Madison Rotary Club, Elks Lodge and Antique Car Club. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law: Mary Annette and Thomas McIntire of Nokomis, Florida and Susan Jane and Amos Hubert of Charleston, South Carolina; one sister, Marcella Hoffman of Madison; four brothers: Maurice Hoffman of Milton, Kentucky, Joseph Hoffman, Clement Hoffman and John Hoffman, all of Madison; two grandchildren: Karen Klein of Indianapolis, Indiana and Arthur Charles "Chip" Dunlap, III of Leesburg, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; his devoted companion, Faye King of Madison; and his dedicated in-home caregivers. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives: Louise Bloom Hoffman and Lucille Lyon Hoffman; an infant son, Robert C. Hoffman, Jr.; and two brothers: Herman Hoffman and M.J. "Matt" Hoffman. The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted by the Reverend John Meyer at 11:00 AM Monday, February 16, 2009 at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, with interment to follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery. The calling hours will begin with the recitation of the Rosary at 4:00 PM Sunday. Calling will continue until 7:00 PM and then again from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM Monday, all at the Lytle Funeral Chapel.
