Life story Mr. Robert "Bob" Baugh, Jr. age 69, of Madison, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2006 at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Born March 10, 1937 in Scottsburg, Indiana, he was the son of Robert, Sr. and Annis (McCartney) Baugh. Mr. Baugh graduated from Scottsburg High School and Tri-City Barber School in Louisville, after attending Indiana State University. He moved to Madison in 1967 from Scott County and became a fixture in downtown Madison as a barber, having owned and operated The Esquire Shop on Mulberry Street for fifty years until his death. He was also a former Jefferson County Civil Defense Director for twenty-four years, just retiring from that post on December 31, 2005. Mr. Baugh served as a Jefferson County Councilman in the late 1970's and early 1980's and a precinct committeeman for over twenty years. He was a member of the North Madison Baptist Church, Union Lodge # 2, F. and A.M., Madison, the Classic Car Club of Indianapolis and the Jefferson County Democrat Party. He also enjoyed restoring automobiles and woodworking. Survivors include his wife, the former Verliss Whicker, whom he married on January 22, 1958 in Dupont, Indiana; his mother, Annis Baugh of Hanover; one daughter, Angela Deaton of Madison; one brother and sister-in-law, William and Shirley Baugh of Martinsville, Indiana; two grandsons: Colin Deaton and Gabriel Deaton, both of Madison; and several nieces and nephews. The Reverend Frank J. McGee will conduct funeral services at 1:00 PM Sunday, June 18, 2006 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 4 to 8 PM Saturday, June 17, 2006 and from 12 Noon until time of services at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the North Madison Baptist Church Building Fund or the American Diabetes Association.
