Mr. Roger Dale Boone, age 71, of Vevay, Indiana entered this life on October 27, 1950 in Madison, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late Edgar and Virginia Clubb Boone. He was a 1968 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. He operated heavy equipment for over fifty years working on pipelines and road construction for several companies including Gayle Clubb & Sons, Reynolds, and Gohmann. He was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 181. He believed in hard work and a job well done and was one of the best backhoe operators around. On August 16, 1986, he was united in marriage to Karen "Sue" Fitzgerald in Warsaw, Kentucky. He had a passion for old cars and trucks and spent a lot of time restoring them in his younger years resulting in some beautiful vehicles. He bought a farm later in life and spent much of his time working on the farm, collecting tractors, and repairing just about anything. He always loved to drive, and you would often see him out in his signature shiny black Chevy truck. Roger loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them, working, joking, and talking. He dedicated many hours to caring for his parents when they were ill. On September 14, 2022 he was baptized declaring his belief in Jesus Christ. He fought a courageous battle against recent illness but passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Norton's King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana surrounded by his family. Roger will be missed by his wife, Karen Sue Fitzgerald Boone of Vevay; his daughters: Angela Elswick and her husband Jay of North Vernon, Indiana and Pamela Boone of Indianapolis, Indiana; his stepsons: Eric Thompson and David Koons; his grandchildren: Shea Mays (Chad), Maranda Elswick, Josh Koons, Rebekah Koons, and Laken Thompson; his great grandchildren Lilly and Ollie; his sister Patsy Rose and her husband Terry of Bedford, Kentucky; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, and one niece. A Celebration of Life service will be held from 2:00 - 6:00 PM on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at the River Valley Community Church, 2535 Clifty Drive, Madison. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Brooksburg Baptist Church, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and WHAS Crusade for Children.
