Life story Mr. Roy A. Means, age 76, of Madison, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2008 at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison. He was born on January 12, 1932, the son of Henry and Sadie Parker Means. Mr. Means was a graduate of the former Saluda High School, a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict, and a retired civil servant at the former Jefferson Proving Ground, Madison. He enjoyed playing golf, was an avid bowler who had numerous accomplishments and set several records, and loved fishing and being a grandpa. Survivors include his wife, the former Billie Myers, to whom he was married on April 5, 1969; one son: Rick Means of Indianapolis; three step-daughters: Becky Anderson of Lowell, Indiana, Bonnie Yarling of Madison and Lea Spall, and her husband Al, of Queens Creek, Arizona; two step-sons: Mike Anderson of California and Grover Anderson and his wife, Loretta, of Madison; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty; six brothers: Jim, Sam, Bill, Charles, Chris and Johnny Means; and five sisters: Dorothy Law, Florence Dean, Ethel Hatchell, Monie Johnson, and his twin sister, Joy, who died at age three. Private family services will be held. The family asks that memorial contribution be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory. Envelopes are available at the Lytle Funeral Chapel.
