Life story Ruth E. Shank, age 83, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison. She was born August 22, 1924 in North Manchester, Indiana, the daughter of Loren, Sr. and Cora Garber Karns. Mrs. Shank was 1942 graduate of Claypool High School and the Muncie Business College in 1943. She was a former resient of Dayton, Ohio, Richmond, Kentucky, and, for a short time, Florida, before moving to Madison in 1992. She was a homemaker, but also retired as a clerk in the ladies apparel department of K-Mart in Richmond. Traveling, sewing, reading and playing piano were some of Mrs.Shank's favorite pastimes. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Dorvin M. Shank, to whom she was married on October 19, 1949 at her family home in Urbana, Indiana; two daughters and sons-in-law: Joellen M. and Jerry Ammons of Nicholasvile, Kentucky, and Judith E. and James Wortham of Madison; one son and daughter-in-law, James L. and Connie Shank of Mason, Ohio; seven grandchildren: Andrew Ammons, Ph.D., Mark Ammons, Joseph Ammons, Jessica Ammons, Kimberly Ammons,Evan Shank, and Stephen Shank; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Grace Kline; and three brothers: Dr. John Karns, Dr. Loren Karns, Jr. and Larry Karns. The Reverend Lewis Wright will conduct memorial services at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 14, 2008 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will be in the columbarium at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Madison Senior Citizens Center.
