Life story Mrs. Sarah B. Vest, age 90, of Madison, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, She was born on February 1, 1920 in Charleston, West Virginia, the daughter of E.B. and Flossie M. Holmes Wade. Mrs. Vest was a 1939 graduate of Saint Albans, West Virginia, High School. She was a homemaker, but also had played piano for several dance studios in West Virginia and Madison. Her memberships included the North United Methodist Church, where she had been a member since 1955 and where she sang in the church choir and taught Vacation Bible School; the former Lancaster Social Club, the Madison Music Club and the Evening Belles Homemakers Club. She had been a Docent for Historic Madison, Inc. for forty years until her retirement two years ago, and primarily served at Dr. Hutching's office and the Sullivan House. She also loved to play the piano and was self-taught. Survivors include three sons: Tom Ferrell and his wife, Diane of Madison, Bill Vest of Madison, and Michael Vest and his wife, Dawn of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; one brother, Tom Wade of Cincinnati, Ohio; thee sisters: Mildred Rutledge and her husband, Jim of Lewisburg, West Virginia, Betty Ingraham of Saint Albins, and Rosalee Hill and her husband, Dick of Shreveport, Louisiana; four grandchildren: Dawn Sparkman and her husband, David, John Ferrell and his wife, Rhonda, and Lisa Russell and her husband, Rick, all of Madison, and Chris Vest of Washington, D.C.; eight great grandchildren; and one great -great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Roy Ferrell on April 10, 1945, and who was killed in Germany during World War II, her second husband, William E. Vest on January 7, 1998; and one sister, Mary Gray. The Reverend David Leland will conduct funeral services at 2:00 PM Saturday at the Lytle Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow in Grandview Memorial Gardens. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Chapel from 4 to 8 PM Friday and from 1 to 2 PM Saturday. The family request contributions be made to the Historic Madison, Inc. or North United Methodist Church. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home.
