Obituary

Life story Simon Sylvester Michl passed April 17, 2011 in his sleep at Swiss Villa Nursing Home. He was born December 24, 1914 to George and Ida Hippler Michl in Jasper County, Illinois. During his early life he farmed with his family and moved to northern Indiana during the depression. He met and married Eileen Renner on October 31, 1941. Simon served in the US Army in the Pacific Theatre from 1942 to 1945. After World War II he returned to Hobart, Indiana where he became a successful plumbing contractor. In 1978 he retired with his beloved wife Eileen and moved to Madison. Simon was predeceased by his parents, one brother, and one granddaughter. He is survived by a sister, Charlotte Gillespie of Mackinaw, Illinois; a son, Leon G. Michl and his wife Gerry of Madison, two daughters, Beverly A. Gentile of Western Springs, Illinois and Shirley J. Michl of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1969. He especially enjoyed hog-roasting, cutting and splitting firewood and helping out friends and family when they were in need. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A private burial ceremony will be conducted at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana. The family request expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1969. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home.
