Life story Mr. Steven W. Coker, age 52, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on June 18, 1960 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of Isom and Alma Jean (Kinman) Coker. Mr. Coker moved to Madison in 1965 from Fort Wayne. He grew up playing basketball in the Brown Gym, and was an avid Indiana University basketball fan. He also taught all the neighborhood children to play basketball. He enjoyed watching the Bill Dance Hunting and Fishing TV show on TV, the family tradition of card playing at Christmas, was a practical joker and considered himself a handyman. He was a former member of Jefferson Post #9, American Legion, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Survivors include his wife, the former Dawn Brewer, to whom he was married on November 18, 1978 in Madison; two daughters and sons-in-law: Mitzi and Tom Dempler of Madison, and Tacia and Roberto Torres of Dallas, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law: Jordan and Nicole Coker of Madison; one brother and sister-in-law: Kenny and Pam Coker of Madison; one sister and brother-in-law: Carolyn and Danny Callis of Madison; seven grandchildren: Cody Lewis, Carissa Dempler, Caylee Dempler, Trenton Dempler, Fabiola Torres, Estevan Torres, and Amillia Coker; one great grandson, Ayden Bennett; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Coker in 1951, and one sister, Barbara Coker in 1971. Pastor Jimmy Butters will conduct funeral services at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel. Interment will be private at a later date. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Chapel from 5 to 8 PM Saturday, December 1, and from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Sunday. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates (KODA). Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home.
