Obituary

Life story Mr. Thomas A. Burg, age 83, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison. Born October 31, 1926 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he was the son of Arnold and Hilda Dannenfelzer Burg. Mr. Burg was a 1944 graduate of Lutheran High School in Milwaukee and a 1957 graduate of Marquette University. There he received a degree in civil engineering. He served his country in the United States Navy two times: once during World War II from 1944-1946 and then again during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954. He moved to Madison in 1960. After serving for twenty-five years with Rexnord, he retired in 1982. At the time of his retirement, he was serving as the manager of the Engineering Department. He then became self-employed as a wood worker. His carpentry skills were well known in the area as he crafted many wood pieces for many people. In addition to woodworking, he enjoyed fishing and traveling. His memberships included the Faith Lutheran Church, where he was a charter member and had held many leadership positions; the Kiwanis Club, the former Madison Country Club and was a social member of the Madison Moose Lodge. Survivors include his wife, the former Vivian "Viv" Dittel, to whom he was married on September 2, 1950 in Milwaukee; two daughters and sons-in-law: Linda A. and Bill Eubank of Farmington, New Mexico, and Karen L. and Andrew Lytle of Madison; one son and daughter-in-law: John A. and Vicky Burg of Montgomery, Texas; one sister, Carol Zenker of Brookfield, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren: Jeri Kay Mobley and her husband, Andy, Andy Lytle and his wife, Sarah, Ashley Newell and her husband, Daniel, Andrea Lytle and Brent, Brian, Eric and David Burg; and four great-grandchildren: Jacob and Jordan Mobley, Carson Newell and Landon Lytle. The Reverend Jeffrey Pflug will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM Monday, January 11, 2010 at the Faith Lutheran Church, with interment to follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The Honor Guard of the United States Navy will conduct military graveside services. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Chapel from 5 to 8 PM Sunday, January 10, 2010 and from 9 to 11 AM Monday at the church. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Faith Lutheran Church. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
