Life story Mr. Troy A. Crutchfield, age 84, of Cullman, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at his residence. He was born on February 25, 1926 in Cullman, the son of Dewey C. and Edith Pope Crutchfield. Mr. Crutchfield served in the US Air Force during World War II as a top gunner on the B24 Bomber called "The Liberator." He worked for NASA as a technician at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama before being transferred to the quality assurance department at Crane Naval Weapon Support Center in Crane, Indiana. He retired in 1988 after twenty-nine years in civil service. He was a member of the Flint Creek Baptist Church in Vinemont, Alabama, where he served as a deacon for forty-seven years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, the former Ethel "Peggy" Knighten; one daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Mark Cruger of Gulf Breeze, Florida; two sons and daughters-in-law: Gary Dale and Lisa Crutchfield of Sidney, Ohio, and Reverend Randy and Lisa Crutchfield of Madison; six grandchildren: Charles, Alicia and Patricia Cruger, Jessica Crutchfield, Ansley Crutchfield and Elizabeth (Alyssa) Hughes; one great grandson, Chester Hughes; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Claud Crutchfield and one sister, Charlcie Speegle. Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend Perry Brown at 1:00 PM CST Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at the Flint Creek Baptist Church, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Cullman Heritage Funeral Home from 6 to 8 PM CST Tuesday, January 18 and from 12 Noon CST until time of services on Wednesday.
