Obituary

Life story Virginia M. Demaree, age 89, of Madison, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2015 at Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover, Indiana. Born June 8, 1926 in Switzerland County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Hosea D. and Lula (Wiseman) Brooks. Mrs. Demaree grew up in Vevay, Indiana and was a homemaker. She married Thomas B. Demaree on April 1, 1943 in Denver, Colorado while he was in training for the U.S. Army Air Corp. She has lived in Madison since her deceased husband returned home from World War II in 1945. Mrs. Demaree was a sixty-seven year member of Madison First Baptist Church, the church's Fern Gronseth Missionary Circle, a sixty-five year member of the Emma Scott Circle of the International Order of King's Daughters' and Sons, a member of the Madison Elks Lodge, and volunteered for the American Red Cross and King's Daughters' Hospital for several years. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, David T. and Dena Demaree of Danville, Kentucky; one daughter, Diane J. Newsom of Rockville, Maryland; five grandchildren: Meredith Lee and her husband Bob of Atlanta, Georgia, Matthew Demaree of Pasadena, California, Dr. Victoria Newsom of Bremerton, Washington, David A. Newsom and his wife Andrea of Alexandria, Virginia, and Thomas Newsom and his wife, Andrea of Chicago, Illinois; six great grandchildren: Rush and Annie Lee, and Juliana, Maxwell, Violet and Erik Newsom. She is also survived by two sisters: Velma Butler of Milton, Kentucky and Louise McCool of Lawrenceburg, Indiana; one brother, Charles Brooks of DeBary, Florida; and seven nieces and five nephews. Mrs. Demaree was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Tom on November 14, 1999; and her son-in-law, David Newsom on September 23, 2006. The Reverend Randy Crutchfield will conduct funeral services at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 18, 2015 at the Lytle Funeral Homes, Main Street, with interment to follow in Springdale Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Saturday, October 17 and from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Sunday at the Lytle Funeral Homes, Main Street. It was her wish that contributions in her memory be made to the Madison First Baptist Church Stained Glass Window Fund or King's Daughters' Hospital Foundation. Contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.
