Obituary

Life story Mrs. Virginia Lee "Ginger" Jorgensen, age 57, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at her residence. Born September 18, 1955 in Arlington, Virginia, she was the daughter of Gordon and Maureen (Glesner) Dyer. Mrs. Jorgensen formerly lived in Falls Church and Richmond, Virginia, and graduated from Lakeview High School in Battle Creek, Michigan in 1973. She also graduated Magna Cum Laude from Western Michigan University in 1998 with a degree in public history with concentration in preservation and museum management. She and her husband moved to Madison in 2006. She owned and operated several antique booths at the Lumber Mill Antique Mall in Madison, and had an avid collection of antiques of museum quality displayed in her home. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Madison, currently chairman of the Historic District Board of Review where she had served for the past five years, and secretary of the Cornerstone Society. Mrs. Jorgensen had recently published a book, "The Ghosts of Madison, Indiana" by History Press and was featured in a full page article about the book on September 29, 2012 in The Madison Courier. It was written to create interest in Downtown Madison. Survivors include her husband, Dennis Jorgensen, to whom she was married on September 30, 1994 in Battle Creek; her parents of Battle Creek; two daughters: Lauren Pontoni and her husband, Chris of Sanford, Florida and Lacy Hopkins of Columbus, Indiana; two sons: Brett Gardner and Dustin Hopkins, both of Columbus; two step-daughters: Kimberly Burke and her husband, Kevin of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Colleen Widemon and her husband, Scott of Crossville, Tennessee; one step-son, Michael Jorgensen and his wife, Beth of Phoenix, Arizona; one sister, Linda Smith of Grand Rapids, Michigan; one half-brother, John Dyer and his wife, Marianne of Detroit, Michigan; one half-sister, Peggy Wilson and her husband, Elmer of Virginia; fifteen grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. Bishop Richard Johnson will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 6, 2012 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow in Springdale Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Chapel from 5 to 8 PM Friday, October 5 and from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Saturday. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Madison-Jefferson County Animal Shelter. Contribution envelopes are availalbe at the funeral home.
