Life story Walter E. "Chips" Dryden, age 65, of Madison, Indiana passed away on Saturday July 6, 2013 at his residence. Born June 10, 1948, in Bedford, Indiana, he was the son of Elmer and Martha (Robertson) Dryden. He was a 1966 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. Following high school, he served in the United States Army where he served in Vietnam and was discharged as a sergeant. Mr. Dryden was employed in the maintenance department of Metaldyne in North Vernon, Indiana, and loved farming on his family farm near Dupont. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Hayden, Indiana. He was fond of Christmas time and handed out money to the needy. He loved his family and enjoyed taking his grandkids on four-wheeler rides. He is survived by his wife of forty years, Lisa (Pickett) Dryden, whom he married on February 19, 1973 in Madison; his six children: Travis Dryden and his wife, Tina of Hanover, Wesley Dryden of Madison, Andrew Dryden of Seymour, Bradley Dryden of Madison, Brandi Bryant and her husband, Adam of Lillington, North Carolina, and Bambi Shipman and her husband, Scott of Madison; his mother, Martha Dryden Carlock of Madison, his sister, Beth Marshall and her husband, Steve of Madison; and seven grandchildren: Reece, Miah, Ashlyn, Tatum, Addison, Emerson, and Ellie. He was preceded in death by his father; one sister, Annamary Claghorn, and two nephews, Jacob Marshall and Joey Claghorn. Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 PM Tuesday July 9, 2013 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel, 423 W. Main Street in downtown Madison. Family and friends may gather from 4 till 6 PM at the Lytle Funeral Chapel. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Riley Hospital for Children or the St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home.
