Obituary

Life story Mr. William L. "Bill" Freeman, age 85, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the King's Daughters Hospital. Born March 21, 1927 in Lawrence County, Indiana, he was the son of William Harry and Anna (Meurer) Freeman. Mr. Freeman was a 1945 graduate of Bedford, Indiana High School, and earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in industrial education. He was inducted in to the United States Army, and was honorably discharged in 1945 after serving during World War II. Mr. Freeman moved his family to Madison in 1956 from Paoli, Indiana after having taught school there. He had also taught school in Maryland and North Vernon, Indiana. After coming to Madison, he taught industrial arts at both Madison Consolidated Junior High School and Madison Consolidated High School, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Paoli, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #1969, Madison, and enjoyed working in his woodworking shop in his home. Survivors include his wife, the former Helen Garrison, to whom he was married on April 12, 1952 in Bedford, Indiana, and who just recently celebrated their 60th anniversary; one son, David M. Freeman of Madison; one daughter, Jill Freeman of Madison; two granddaughters: Anna Gobbel of Madison and Samantha Dafft of Drummonds, Tennessee; and three great grandchildren: Amber and Molly Gobbel and August L. Dafft. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: one who died in infancy and Norman Freeman. The Reverend Jan Anderson will conduct funeral services at 11:00AM Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The Honor Guard of Jefferson Post #9, American Legion, will conduct military graveside services. Friends and family may call from 9:00 to 11:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Jefferson County Animal Shelter in Madison. Contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.
