Life story Zebadiah James "Zeb" Phagan, 31, of Franklin, Indiana, formerly of Madison, died on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Schneck Medical Center in Seymour from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on I-65. He was born on July 1, 1980 in Columbus, the son of Doug and Lisa Shaffer Phagan. "Zeb" was a 1999 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. He had attended Ball State University and graduated Ivy Tech State College with an Associate's Degree in Electrical Science through the I.B.E.W. Local 481 Apprenticeship where he became a journeyman electrician. In his spare time he enjoyed helping others, traveling and spending time outdoors which included riding his motorcycles. He was most fond of his 2012 Harley Davidson which he had just recently purchased. Survivors include his wife, the former Nina Bachmann of Franklin; his father and step-mother, Doug and Patty Phagan of Madison; his mother and step-father, Lisa and Richard Ard of Sioux City, Iowa; four sisters: Abby Phagan of Warsaw, Indiana, Nelda Jean Phagan of Madison, Gretchen Phagan of Hanover, and Meagan Chase of Sioux City, Nebraska; one brother, Jimmy Joe Demaree of Milton, Kentucky; his paternal grandmother, June Phagan Heath of Madison; his maternal grandfather, Richard Shaffer of Hanover; his paternal step-grandfather, Bennie Chandler of Canaan; his mother- and father-in-law, Jim and Carol Bachmann of Columbus, Indiana; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, James Phagan; his paternal step-grandfather, Everett Heath; and his maternal grandmother, Ruth Shaffer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM on Friday, March 23, 2012 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel. At the request of the family, memorial gifts are strongly suggested to go the Huntington's Disease Society of America. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Anyone who rides a motorcycle is encouraged to ride to and from the services in Zeb's honor. He would have encouraged you to ride along the Ohio River and enjoy the freedom of the road and so does his family on the day of the services.
