Life story Mrs. Zella Proffitt, age 78, of North Vernon, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2006 at her residence. Born October 18, 1927 in Clay County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late John and Rosella (Barnes) Minton. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Minton; and two brothers, Robert and Glenn Minton. Mrs. Proffitt was married to Ulysses on December 20, 1946 in London, Kentucky. They moved to Indianapolis in 1952 and remained there until they retired to North Vernon in 1989. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed needlework and reading. Survivors include her husband, Ulysses; four daughters: Lillie Jeffers of North Vernon, Gwendolyn Proffitt of Indianapolis, Nadine Tascott of North Vernon, and Janice McKenna of North Vernon; three sons: Doyle Proffitt of Commiskey, Dennis Proffitt of Indianapolis, and Mark Proffitt of Ingals, Indiana; seven sisters: Irene Cheek, Nannie Rush, and Katie Proffitt, all of London, Kentucky, Nellie Proffitt of North Vernon, Ida Benge of Dayton, Ohio, Tretha Benge of Cedar Lake, Indiana, and Judy Parker of Union, Kentucky; two brothers: James "Pete" and Dillard Minton, both of London, Kentucky; nineteen grandchildren and twenty eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday, April 6, 2006 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday, April 5, 2006 and from 12 Noon until service time on Thursday at the Lytle Funeral Chapel. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donors choice. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
