Life story Mrs. Zuzanna Koczergo, age 87, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at her residence. Born March 27, 1923 in Dobczyce, Poland, she was the daughter of Vicenti and Maria Zulta Urbanik. Mrs. Koczergo moved to the United States in 1951, having been sponsored by the Vestal family near Versailles and where she worked for 18 months before moving to Madison. Prior to that she lived in Germany where she worked as a seamstress. In Madison, she worked as a chef for the former Fiesta and Dark Horse Restaurants, and the Clifty Inn. She was well known for her pastries including cherry torte and cinnamon rolls from scratch. She and her late husband also catered weddings and the annual Thanksgiving dinner at Williamson Heater Company. She was very active at Prince of Peace Catholic Church and its Legion of Mary, and volunteered for her church preparing many meals. She also translated for patients at the King's Daughters" Hospital. Her hobbies included putting in both flower and vegetable gardens. She deemed herself "old-fashioned" by hanging clothes on her clothesline when she lived at her home at West and Third Streets. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, needlework, sewing, embroidering and crocheting. From the day she moved to Madison in 1951 until she passed away, Mrs. Koczergo never had any intentions of leaving. She loved Madison, its people and her walks all over downtown. Survivors include two daughters: Weronika Feltner and her husband, Lloyd of Saint Augustine, Florida, and Rose King and her husband, Mike of West Lafayette, Indiana; two sons: Edward Koczergo of Saint Augustine, and Andrew Koczergo of Madison; one brother and sister-in-law, Adam and Wanda Urbanik of Madison; one sister, Mila Urbanik of Krakow, Poland; five grandchildren: Sonja, Jacob, Jessica, Joshua and Kristie Joy; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albin Kozcergo on September 7, 1987, to whom she was married on September 30, 1945in Wezler, Germany; one daughter, Teresa Koczergo in 1980; one infant son, Stanislaw Koczergo in 1948; two brothers: Vitol and Marian Urbanik; and one grandson, Christopher Hammock in 1978. The Reverend John Meyer will conduct The Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, with interment to follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Chapel from 5 to 8 PM on Friday, October 1, 2010 and from 8:30 to 9:30 AM Saturday. The Rosary will be recited in Polish and English at 7:00 PM Friday. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Teresa Irene Koczergo Scholarship Fund at Shawe Memorial High School or the Legion of Mary.
