Alice Welty Obituary

Alice Louise (Ginn) Welty, age 98, of Madison, Indiana, formerly of Bedford, Kentucky and the daughter of the late William A. and Edith (Jones) Ginn, was born on August 22, 1923, in Bedford. She was an 1941 graduate of Trimble County High School and was a homemaker throughout her life. On October 7, 1942, she was united in marriage to Virgil Robert Welty in the Ginn family parlor on Kings Ridge at Union Grove, Kentucky. This happy union was blessed with four children: Bill, Bob, Barry, and Betsy.

She was an incredible woman of faith and was a devoted member of Milton Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for over forty years. It was very important to her that she prayed for her children and her many grandchildren each day. Her kind-hearted spirit made it easy for her to have a conversation with anyone. In her spare time, she was an avid fan of the University of Kentucky Basketball team, enjoyed cooking Saturday lunch for family, friends, and those working on the farm, taking care of her garden, canning vegetables, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Welty entered her eternal home on Friday, April 1, 2022 at the River Terrace Health Campus in Madison with her family by her side.

Her life will be cherished by her children: William Joseph "Bill" Welty, Sr. and his wife, Patricia, of Carrollton, Kentucky, Robert Glen "Bob" Welty and his wife, Twili, of Louisville, Kentucky; Barry Lee Welty and his wife, Brenda, of Danville, Kentucky, and Betsy Ann Welty McCrary and her husband, Steven, of Edinburgh, Indiana; her grandchildren: William Joseph "Joe" Welty Jr. and his fiance, Ann Marie of Prospect, Kentucky, Sara Schreckenhofer and her husband, Scott of Union, Kentucky, Brent Welty and his wife, Marlena of Milton, Kentucky, Susan Benecke and her husband, Shawn of Carrollton, Tony Kendal Welty and his wife, Carmen of Shepardsville, Kentucky, Brett Welty and his wife, Vanessa of Danville, Lee Welty and his wife, Laura of Danville, Jeffrey McCrary and his wife, Stephanie of Franklin, Indiana; Todd McCrary and his wife, Angel of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Amber Payne and her husband, Brian of Columbus, Indiana; thirteen great grandsons: John (Mia), Jacob (Hilary), Brye (Meghan), Kendal, Matthew, Will, Eli, Devin, Klayton, Elijah, Colby, Dawson, and Augustus "Gus"; ten great granddaughters: Ally Grace, Lilly, Anna, Emily, Ella, Elaina, Ariah, Rayanna, Ava, and Anisten; her great great grandchildren: Graham, John, and Quinn; her brother: Paul Ginn of Madison; her sister-in-law: Margie Ginn of Madison; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Robert Welty who passed away on March 3, 2007; her daughter, Nancy Jane Welty who passed away in October of 1946; and her brothers: Glen A. Ginn and his wife, Ella, James C. Ginn, Maurice J. Ginn, and Franklin D. Ginn and his wife, Louise.
