Anthony Sowers Obituary

Anthony Wayne Sowers, age 73, of Madison, Indiana, and the son of the late Harold and Dee (Whitaker) Sowers, was born on February 13, 1951, in Madison. In October of 1969, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. He proudly served our country until he was honorably discharged on April 10, 1972. In 1992, he was united in marriage to the former Debra Anne Mikesell in Madison, and they enjoyed 30 wonderful years together until her passing. Throughout his life, he was a union carpenter with the Carpenters Local Union #175. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, taking care of his horse, Cherokee, coloring, and watching FOX News and old westerns. He was a hardworking man who would give you the shirt off his back and he never met a stranger. He took great pride in caring for his family, who was always his top priority in life. Mr. Sowers passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family.

His life will be cherished by his sons: Justin Sowers and his wife, Katie of Madison, and Timothy Sowers and his wife, Heather Wooten of Madison; his daughters: Breanna Mikesell, and her husband, Dane Youngblood, and Rosalyn Mikesell, both of Elkhart, Indiana; his grandchildren: Waylon, Bryer, Kaisleigh, and Hudson Sowers, and Braydon and Bryson Wooten; his brothers: Bobby Fletcher, of Newport, Kentucky, and Danny Sowers, of North Webster, Indiana; his sisters: Christine Oliver and her husband, Ed of San Diego, Califorina, and Jewel Sowers, of North Vernon, Indiana; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Debra Sowers who passed away on November 15, 2022.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Lytle Welty Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, on Madison's hilltop with interment to follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Welty Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday.

Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Major Samuel Woodfill Post #9, American Legion.
