Carl Morgan Obituary

Carl Morgan, age 91, of Madison, Indiana, and the son of the late Carl B. Morgan and Emily Boldery, was born on February 2, 1934, in Madison. On June 5, 1956, he was inducted into the United States Army where he served on the third U.S. Infantry Regiment, traditionally known as The Old Guard at Fort Myers, Virginia. On June 4, 1958, he transferred to the United States Army Reserves where he faithfully served until he was honorably discharged on May 31, 1962. After returning from the service, he worked at Hotel Denny in downtown Madison. For 29 years, he worked at Meese Inc. where he retired in 1996.

Carl was a member of Fair Play Fire Company No. 1 for 71 years, having served from March 1, 1954 to September 27, 2025. In those 71 years, Carl was a fire fighter and served as Pipesman, Engineer, Standing Committee, Trustee, President, and Vice President, as well as Fire Company Chief and Assistant Chief. He was an avid fan of NASCAR, the Cincinnati Reds, and Indiana University Basketball especially during the Bobby Knight years. In his spare time, he loved going to the fire company cabin that overlooks the river, occasionally savoring a Wiedemann Fine Beer with friends, and spending time at the firehouse. Mr. Morgan passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at the Hickory Creek at Madison, on the day of the semi-annual fish fry hosted by Fair Play Fire Company No. 1.

His life will be cherished by his Fair Play Fire Company No. 1 family; and his dear friends, Bill Kalb of Madison, Dave Snodgrass of Madison, Janice Chandler of Madison, and Barb Schutt of Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his close friend, Bob Chandler, and numerous other friends.

The Fair Play Fire Company No. 1 will conduct a fireman's service at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at Lytle Welty Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, Madison.
