She attended the Broadway School and Madison High School, graduating in the class of 1965. She began working at the U.S. Shoe Corporation in Madison until it closed. During her childhood, she was very close with her cousin, Cheri Thorne, who was more like a sister to her throughout the years. Her daughter, Dawn was the joy of her life. Carolyn loved her deeply and called her almost daily until her passing.
In her spare time, Carolyn enjoyed watching television, shopping, reading her Bible, talking to her family and friends on the phone, preserving family heirlooms, and more recently, enjoying a meal from Culver's. Over the years, she cared for her grandchildren and always made sure they celebrated the holidays well. She remained close with a high school friend, Vera Stewart who visited with her at least once a month these last few years. Carolyn was a very caring and compassionate woman, with a generous heart which often led to her donating to various charities.
