Chasteen Williams, age 92, of Madison, Indiana, and the son of the late Archie and Zada (Wilkerson) Williams, was born on April 22, 1933, in Leitchfield, Kentucky. He was a graduate of Saluda High School. On November 21, 1953, he was united in marriage to Ruby Ann Bruce and they were blessed with two children, Cindy and Randy. Chasteen was inducted into the United States Army on November 30, 1953 and was stationed in Germany for over a year. He proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged on November 29, 1955. For many years, he operated heavy equipment at the Jefferson Proving Grounds until his retirement. Chasteen was also a mechanic and enjoyed fixing cars in the body shop and restoring old cars and tractors. He was a member of New Bethel Church and had attended Wirt Baptist Church at times. Chasteen was a jack of all trades who could do just about anything and was always only a call away when someone needed help. Mr. Williams passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026 at The Beehive Homes of Scottsburg in Scottsburg, Indiana.
His life will be cherished by his daughter: Cindy Phillips and her husband, Jeff of Madison; his son: Randy Williams of Lexington, Indiana; his grandchildren: Evan and Connor; his great grandchildren: Gunnar, Jayce, Ryan, and Brooklyn; and his sister-in-law: Carolyn Brown of Dillsboro, Indiana. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Williams who passed away on April 14, 2018; his sister: Geneva Bruce; and his brother: Douglas Williams.
Pastor Mike Shuler will conduct funeral services at 1:00 PM Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Lytle Welty Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, Madison with interment to follow in New Bethel Cemetery near Lexington, Indiana. Friends and family may visit at Lytle Welty Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 11:00 AM until the time of the service on Thursday.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Solid Rock Community Church and New Bethel Cemetery. Contributions may be made at Lytle Welty Funeral Home or below.
