Clifford Randall Cook, age 73, of Hanover, Indiana, and the son of the late Charles Thomas and Helen Bernice (White) Cook, was born on December 16, 1951, in Paoli, Indiana. On February 4, 1978, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Ann (Grey) Sturgill in Paoli, Indiana, and they enjoyed 45 wonderful years of devoted love to one another. From the young age of 15, he began working as a cook and then later put up telephone lines. Finally, he joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Hall Local 1393 out of Indianapolis, Indiana, where he put up power lines all over the United States. For a short time, he got laid off and worked for Marble Hill in Jefferson County, Indiana, and then for Brittany's Factory in Paoli. He returned to work with IBEW until he got hurt and almost died in May of 2003 in Hamilton County, Indiana.
Clifford loved making wooden crafts, building things, doing automotive work, vegetable and flower gardening, and putting puzzles together with his wife. He enjoyed watching NCIS, Dancing with the Stars, Disney shows and movies, the Die Hard movie series, and the Rocky and Rambo movies. He was an avid fan of country music, especially Shania Twain, and loved decorating and going all out for Christmas each year. Clifford was very fond of his Chevy Silverado truck and his Mustang, which he bought and later gave to his daughter when she turned 16 years old.
Clifford was a believer in Jesus Christ and was baptized along with his wife by Pastor JD Traylor in 1984, and they became faithful members of Hanover Baptist Church. He was a very caring, loving and hard working husband, father, and grandfather. He would help anyone if they needed help and always had to stay busy. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Mr. Cook passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at the Kindred Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
His life will be cherished by his daughters: Cynthia Ann (Cook) Smith and Tess Renea Sturgill, both of Hanover; his siblings: Larry Ray Moore, Penelope "Penny" Delight Bailey, Vicky Darlene Warren, Tami Jo Allen, Charles Thomas Cook, Jr., Michael Kevin Cook, and Melissa Dawn Craig; his grandchildren: Natasha Marie Melton, Justin Charles Brooks, Kori Scott Breeding, Dakoda Monroe Breeding, Trey Matthew Sturgill, Brandon Lee Smith, Dakota Eric Storm Watts, Troy Scott Smith, Teanna Nashea Sturgill, Tia Rayne Sturgill, Stephanie Tavine Ann Watts, and Cameron Blake Sturgill; fifteen great grandchildren and one coming soon; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Cook (1975); his step-father, Ronald Dean Qualkenbush (1992); his mother, Helen Qualkenbush (2000); his loving wife, Phyllis Ann Cook (2023); his son, Jamie Edward Sturgill; his siblings: Sandra Lynn Dixon (2017), John "Bill" William Cook (2022), and Jeffrey Kent Cook (2024); one grandson, Damien Sturgill; his nieces: Candy Warren (1978), Sandra Pearson (2008), and Tabitha Payton (1979); and one great niece, Hannah Archer.
