Diana Brooks-Gronberg Obituary

Diana Lorraine Brooks-Gronberg was a fun and vivacious woman. She loved people and never met a stranger. She was always laughing and looking for good trouble, and she tagged herself as a "non-conforming eccentric." Her greatest role was as a compassionate and caring mother. She adored her children and always joked that "they raised her." Diana passed away on May 27, 2022 at the age of 83, after a prolonged battle with COPD.

Diana was born on March 6, 1939, in Milan, Indiana to Emma Lorraine Miller Fuller and William Davis Fuller. She was a lifetime member of St. John's United Church of Christ and was devoted to her faith. She was baptized with Coffee Creek Baptist Church in Graham Creek. She taught Sunday School at both churches and was a member of many committees. She was also a Deacon and on Church Council.

Diana graduated from Madison High School and during those years participated in GAA and FHA. She was a Girl Scout and later served for many years as a Girl Scout and Boy Scout troop leader. When her children were young, she stayed active with the PTA and always served as Room Mom. She worked with youth in many ways, including volunteering at the Youth Correctional Center and for House of Hope. She also tutored adults at JCC. She loved painting, crocheting, gardening, and crossword puzzles. She was also interested in Deep South history and participated in Bible Study.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Jesse Avery Brooks, Sr., and her second husband Richard Gronberg, grandfathers Dr. William Hark Fuller, and Harry M. Miller, and grandmothers Cullie Bess Fuller, and Suda Sexton Miller, her favorite Uncle John (Jack) Madison Miller, son in-law Jeff Babcock, and grandson Joshua Avery Vest. She leaves behind her "Earth Angel" and best friend from the age of 5, Jeannie Sarver, whom she loved as a sister. Jeannie served as God Mother to her five children, Jesse Avery Brooks, Jr., Sonja Brooks Babcock, Lori Brooks Rowlison, Jay Albert Brooks and Julie Marie Brooks. Diana also had 10 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
