Dolores Gayle Obituary

Dolores Evelyn "Dodo" (Jackson) Gayle, age 95, of Madison, Indiana, and the daughter of Dallas "Dal" and Martha "Muddie" (Sampson) Jackson, was born on August 17, 1930 at their home in Wirt near Madison. She was a 1948 graduate of North Madison High School. On March 30, 1949, she was united in marriage to June "Jake" Gayle and they enjoyed 56 wonderful years together until his passing.

Dodo was a licensed beautician for many years, having owned and operated her own shop in her Lancaster residence. In her younger years, she also had worked at the Tack Factory, the Proving Ground restaurant, and the Madison State Hospital. She was the oldest member of Lancaster Baptist Church and the last living member of the Gayle family. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, vacationing, going to the casino, and being with family. Mrs. Gayle passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at the River Terrace Health Campus in Madison.

Her life will be cherished by her children: Darrell W. Gayle of Deputy, Indiana, Penny J. Gayle-Long of Madison, and Mark E. Gayle of Deputy; several nieces and nephews including one niece who was like a daughter, Margie Ann Gayle Jackson; and her sister-in-law, Nellie Richey Jackson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Donald "Donnie" Jackson who passed on February 11, 1972; her husband, June "Jake" Gayle who passed on June 5, 2005; her son-in-law, Irvin C. Long who passed on September 9, 2022; and her daughter-in-law, Diane Gayle who passed on January 10, 2025.

Dodo's family chose cremation with no services. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
