Elizabeth "Carole" Gallatin Obituary

Elizabeth "Carole" Gallatin, age 86, of Madison, Indiana and Fort Myers, Florida, died on Monday, December 8, 2025 at the Hickory Creek nursing facility in Madison, with her children by her side. She was born on November 19, 1939 in Indianapolis, Indiana to George and Elizabeth "Bettie" (McClamroch) Harting who preceded her in death. Carole graduated from Granville Wells High School in 1957 in Jamestown, Indiana. She attended Indiana University in Bloomington for a year before marrying her high school sweetheart, Carl "Roger" Gallatin, on June 26, 1960, in Jamestown. The couple moved to Madison in 1962 when Roger began his teaching and coaching career, and Carole took on the role of a dedicated homemaker. They were soon blessed with three children: Holly, Kimberly and Roger. Carole continued to care for their home and children with much love and dedication. Later, as her children became older, Carole dabbled in real estate before finding her passion in education.  She worked for one year at Madison Junior High School as support staff and then spent 20 years at Anderson Elementary School, where she wore many hats as secretary, managing bookkeeper, nurse, and more. Carole was truly the heartbeat of the school, serving half-a-dozen principals throughout her career. Carole and Roger purchased a home in Fort Meyers, FL in 1995 and enjoyed 27 years of being snowbirds.

Carole was an active and devoted member of her church communities, including RiverStone Church in Madison, Indiana, and Fort Myers Christian Church in Fort Myers, Florida. She volunteered for various roles and took great pleasure in singing with the choir. She was also involved in organizations such as the Psi Iota Xi sorority, where she served as President of the chapter for three years, and the P.T.O. at Anderson Elementary School, where she chaired the Fall Fair for two years. She was an avid reader; enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, and cross-stitch over the years; loved playing cards including being a part of a Bridge Club for many years; adored all crossword puzzles, word searches, and countless games on her iPad.  Carol was also a sports enthusiast, with a particular fondness for football. Her favorite place to be was on the beach soaking up the sun and collecting seashells.

She is survived by three children: Holly (Mark) Moore of Carmel, Indiana; Kimberly (Keith) Mahoney of Madison, and Roger Gallatin of Madison; eight grandchildren: Audrey (Matt) Swiderski of Denver, Colorado, Mitchell Moore of Carmel, Kenton (Logann) Mahoney of Madison, Kyler (Kiersten) Mahoney of Madison, Kindsey (Jimmy) Duncan of Madison, Kaitlyn (Eric) Sowder of Walton, Kentucky, Hannah (Cooper) Scherr of Burlington, Kentucky, and Gabriel Gallatin of Dayton, Kentucky; and her great grandchildren: Mila, Elsie, Blakely Sowders; Walker and Bennett Mahoney; Fielding and Magnolia Mahoney; Jamie and Colie Mae Duncan; and Ellis Swiderski.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
