Fern M. Melton

Life story Fern M. Melton, age 84, of Canaan, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover, Indiana. Born December 6, 1933 in Jefferson County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Lawrence Leroy and Florence Isabelle (Henry) Lanham. She was a homemaker and often helped on the family farm. In 1951, she was united in marriage to Cecil I. Melton. She was a member of the Cross Plains Church of Christ and past treasurer and longtime member of the Salem Cemetery Association across from the church. She enjoyed everything Gene Autry, especially old western movies and Gunsmoke, and spent a lot of time doing word searches and canning. She loved all of her grandchildren, great and great--great grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Martha Ann Taylor and her husband, Kenny of Canaan; her son: Cecil Wayne Melton of Canaan; her sister: Anna Little of Madison, Indiana; her brother: Kenneth Lanham and his wife, Joyce of Lexington, Indiana; one sister-in-law: Charlotte Lanham of Canaan; three grandchildren: Lori Redwine and her husband, James of Canaan, Melissa Couch and her husband, Scott of Carrollton, Kentucky, and Cindy Stephen and her husband, Curtis, of Versailles, Indiana; ten grandchildren: Jenny, Thomas, Shawn, Kaitlyn, Karlee, McKenzie, Lacey, Kendall, Lindsey, and Kody; and nine great-great grandchildren: Madison, Alexis, Landen, Klaire, Karter, Laine, Amelia, Presley, and Meredith. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cecil; her sister, Vivian Lanham; her brothers: Virgil Lanham, Albert Lanham, and Paul Lanham; one grandson, Bradley Wayne Taylor; and one brother-in-law: Richard Little. Brother Randy Thieman will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Cross Plains Church of Christ, 2462 East County Road 1050 South, Cross Plains, Indiana with interment to follow in Salem Cemetery in Cross Plains. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, October 12, 2018, and at Cross Plains Church of Christ from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday.
