Fern M (Smart) Thompson

Life story Fern M. Thompson, age 91, of Madison, Indiana, and the daughter of the late George and Mary (Parks) Smart, was born on March 29, 1929, in Jefferson County, Indiana. On November 22, 1946, she was united in marriage to Dale L. Thompson. For over twenty years, she worked as an inspector at Conn Organ until her retirement in 1979. After retirement, she worked for Bob Hoffman in the Madison Township Trustee's office. She was a member of North Madison Christian Church, the Martha Circle of the King's Daughters and Sons, and the Democratic Women of Jefferson County. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, and playing cards, especially Euchre. Mrs. Thompson passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at the Jewel Place in Madison. Her life will be cherished by her children: Janet Short and her husband, Dwight of Deputy, Donnie Thompson and his wife, Darlene, of Madison, and Tony Thompson and his wife, Sally, of Madison; her sister: Helen Rose, of Madison; her grandchildren: Janice Brittain and Jessi Getz, both of Madison, Jill Bowman of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Donmichael Thompson and Derek Thompson, both of Columbus, Indiana, and Dia Thompson of Jeffersonville, Indiana; thirteen great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Thompson who passed away on October 8, 2008; her brother, Russell Smart; her sister: Vera Duncan; and her granddaughter, Julie Stucker who passed away on January 21, 2020. Private family services will be held with interment to follow in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Madison. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
