George Thomas Perry, age 66, of Madison, Indiana, and the son of the late George Russell and Willia Jeanette (Cole) Perry, was born on March 27, 1956, in Madison. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Army on August 1, 1974 where he served as Private until he was honorably discharged on June 18, 1976. On July 9, 1994, he was united in marriage to the former Gretchen Luckett in Columbus, Indiana. For five years, he worked as a Die Cast Technician at Madison Precision Products and later worked as a DST at the Muscatatuck State Hospital in Butlerville, Indiana for twelve years.
He was a member of the Broadway Baptist Church, AFSCME, the Masonic Eureka Lodge #30, and the Major Samuel Woodfill Post #9, American Legion. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, doing wood work in his shed, camping, and working security during the Madison Regatta. Mr. Perry passed away Friday, June 3, 2022 at the Norton King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison.
His life will be cherished by his wife of 27 years, Gretchen of Madison; his children: Twana Goff and her husband, Kevin, of North Vernon, and Ian Wells, of Madison; his God Daughter: Hannah "Katie" Perry of Hanover, Indiana; his grandsons: Darrin Bruther, Jared Bruther, and Roman Perry; six great grandchildren; his brothers: Russell Cosby and Brian Gibson, both of Madison; his uncle and aunt: Joseph Perry and Rebecca O'Banion of Madison; his aunt: Betty Perry, of Madison; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gary and Judy Luckett of Milton, Kentucky; and his brother-in-law, Gary Lee Luckett, Jr.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Devon Perry; his sister, Mary "Penny" Perry; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Reverend Harvey Leggett, Jr. will conduct funeral services at 12:00 PM Friday June 10, 2022 at Lytle Welty Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, on Madison's hilltop with interment to follow in Springdale Cemetery in Madison. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Welty Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Friday.
Masonic memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, June 10, 2022 by the Prince Hall Grand Lodge, Eureka Lodge #30, Madison at the funeral home. The honor guards of the United States Army and the Major Samuel Woodfill Post #9, American Legion will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
