Obituary

John Fredrick Barnes, age 71, of Ghent, Kentucky, and the son of the late Dorie and Mary Ruth (Hayfer) Barnes, was born on November 9, 1951, in Indianapolis, Indiana. For many years, he worked in maintenance at General Butler State Park in Carrollton, Kentucky. He was a strong believer in the Lord and attended Open Door Baptist Church in Carrollton for years. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching science-fiction and western movies, and was a big believer in Big Foot. Mr. Barnes passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Baptist Health Louisville.

His life will be cherished by his children: Misty Stephens and her husband, Philip of Ghent, Kentucky and Michael Beavers and his companion, Miranda Williams of Bedford, Kentucky; his grandchildren: Kelsy Beavers, Jaden Stephens, Catlian Webster, Dalton Sullivan, Jaxon Beavers, Kayden Beavers, Leland Beavers, Megan Beavers, and Hayleigh Beavers; and his great grandchildren: Justus Beavers and Onyx Rininger. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 PM Friday, September 8, 2023 at the Open Door Baptist Church in Carrollton, Kentucky.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the John Barnes Memorial Fund. Contributions may be made at the Lytle Welty Funeral Home or below.
