John D. Hawk, age 81, of Madison, Indiana, and the son of the late Dr. James H. and Elizabeth G. (Gottschalk) Hawk, was born on March 6, 1940, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated from Short Ridge High School in Indianapolis and attended the University of Maryland. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. On September 2, 1978, he was united in marriage to the former Carol E. Edmond in Indianapolis.
He worked at Sears, Roebuck and Co. for many years in Indianapolis until his retirement in 1993. Shortly after, he and his wife moved to a beautiful home on the river in Patriot, Indiana where they created many memories until they relocated to Madison in 2005. He was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Madison and was involved in the Heritage Trail Conservancy. John had a great dry sense of humor and in his spare time, he enjoyed working puzzles and going for drives in the country. Mr. Hawk passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021 at the River Terrace Health Campus in Madison.
His life will be cherished by his River Terrace family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol E. Hawk who passed away on November 1, 2007, and his brother, James H. Hawk.
The Reverend Mary Taflinger will conduct memorial services at 10:30 AM Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Christ Episcopal Church, 506 Mulberry Street, Madison. Inurnment will follow in the Columbarium at Christ Episcopal Church.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Christ Episcopal Church or the John Hawk Endowment at the Community Foundation of Madison. Contributions may be made at Lytle Welty Funeral Home or below.
