Life story Jon Arthur Tucker, 64, of Madison, Indiana, and son of the late EJ and Gertrude (Holcomb) Tucker, was born June 5, 1955 in Greensburg, Indiana. He graduated from Jennings County, Indiana, High School in 1973 and joined the United States Army in August of that year in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division and was honorably discharged on August 30, 1977 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Upon returning from military service, he became the manager of the Burger Chef restaurant in Greensburg. In his spare time, Jon worked at his family's Christmas Tree farm. Later, he worked for Essex Casting in Columbus, Indiana as a furnace operator until the firm closed in the 1990s. Following that, he moved to Madison and worked as a certified boiler operator in the powerhouse of the Madison State Hospital until his retirement. Mr. Tucker enjoyed hydroplane racing and served as the pit chairman for the Madison Regatta. He was a member in good standing with the regatta committee for many years. He loved military history and airplanes, trains, fireworks, the band KISS, target shooting, reading and campfires. Mr. Tucker passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Hosparus Health Inpatient Care Center in Louisville, Kentucky. His life will be cherished by his sister, Kathleen Sprinkle; six nieces and two nephews, many great nieces and nephews, and his beloved friend, Lynn Melton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Twila Criswell, and one brother, Denver Tucker. Reverend Frank McGee will conduct graveside services at 2:00 PM Thursday October 24, 2019 at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Madison's hilltop, with inurnment in the columbarium at the cemetery to follow. Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, on Madison's hilltop, is in charge of the arrangements.
