Lee Goodin Obituary

Lee Randall Goodin, age 95, of Madison, Indiana, and the son of the late William "Willie" and Emily (Green) Goodin, was born on June 3, 1929, in Pineville, Kentucky. On March 1, 1951, he was inducted into the United States Army and he proudly served our country during the Korean Conflict while being stationed in Germany. On February 15, 1953, he transferred to the U.S. Army Reserves until he was honorably discharged on September 13, 1956. On August 8, 1953, Lee was united in marriage to Viola Foister, and they enjoyed 59 wonderful years together.

Lee worked as an attendant and ambulance driver for the Madison State Hospital for many years. He was a true outdoorsman as he loved hunting ginseng, working in the vegetable garden, and farming. Lee placed his trust in Jesus Christ, and was the oldest living member of the New Hope Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Major Samuel Woodfill Post #9, American Legion in Madison. Lee was a jokester at times but more than anything, he loved spending time with his family. Mr. Goodin passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at the Norton King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison.

His life will be cherished by his daughter, Carolyn Kay Reed and her husband, John "Joe" of Madison; his brother: Harvey Goodin of Pineville, Kentucky; his daughter-in-law: Mary Lou Goodin of Madison; his grandchildren: Greg Cline, Emily Goins, and Cory Goodin; six great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Goodin who passed away on July 22, 2012; his sons: Ricky D. Goodin who passed away in 1959, Melvin Goodin who passed away on July 26, 2014, and Roger Goodin who passed away on December 28, 2022; three sisters and seven brothers.

Pastor Nick Thompson will conduct funeral services at 1:00 PM Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Lytle Welty Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, Madison, with interment to follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Henryville, Indiana. Friends and family may visit at the Lytle Welty Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 11:00 AM until the time of the service on Thursday.

Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the American Legion Post #234 in Scottsburg, Indiana.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to New Hope Baptist Church. Contributions may be made at the Lytle Welty Funeral Home or below.
