Lila Mae Grigsby, age 93, of Madison, Indiana, and the daughter of the late Cecil and Lottie (Shepherd) Robertson, was born on August 14, 1928, in New Marion, Indiana. She was a graduate of New Marion High School and was a homemaker throughout her life. On August 17, 1946, she was united in marriage to Alonzo Grigsby and this union was blessed with five children: Patricia, Linda, Brenda, Paula, and Doug. She was a member of the New Marion Baptist Church and always enjoyed giving and helping others.
In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, working puzzles, coloring, going on walks, shopping, gardening, cooking - especially fried chicken, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Mrs. Grigsby passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison.
Her life will be cherished by her children: Pat Grigsby, of Madison, Linda Kay McFadden and her husband, Wayne of Lexington, Indiana, Brenda Cahall and her husband, Kim of Madison, and Paula Bower and her husband, Jerry of New Washington; her sisters: Ilene Poynter of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Delores Kirby of Greenwood, Indiana; her daughter-in-law: Deanne Grigsby of New Washington; ten grandchildren: Rebecca Wiseman, Stephanie Marion, Angie Bear, Shane Cahall, Trevor McFadden, Chris Bower, Allen Grigsby, Brandi Mundt, Ryan Grigsby, and Shanna Hunter; and 22 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo Grigsby who passed away on September 18, 1989; her son, Doug Grigsby; her brother: Cecil Robertson, Jr.; and her sisters: Mary Katherine Robertson and Virginia Hay.
Reverend Robby King will conduct memorial services at 3:00 PM Sunday December 12, 2021 at Lytle Welty Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, on Madison's hilltop. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Welty Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 1:00 PM until the time of the service on Sunday. Private interment will be held in the Grigsby Cemetery in Delaware, Indiana at a later date.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, New Marion Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Contributions may be made at the Lytle Welty Funeral Home or below.
