Life story Marilyn Lou Westcott Smith, age 90, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away with family by her side on December 18, 2020 at Magnolia Springs East (Assisted Living). She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Smith. Marilyn was the daughter of the late George Westcott and Jane Harris Westcott, and was born in a car (on the way to the hospital) on April 27, 1930, in Dayton, KY. She graduated from Ludlow High School in 1948, and met monthly with Ludlow classmates for lunch until 2019. After high school, Marilyn obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Education and then a Master's Degree in Guidance Counseling. She enjoyed her years as a guidance counselor. Marilyn and Bob lived for many years on Riverview Drive in Milton, KY, overlooking the Ohio River, with a gorgeous view of Madison, IN. Friends and family enjoyed watching boat races on the river during Fourth of July celebrations. A group of hang-gliders occasionally used Marilyn and Bob's house site to take off and fly over the Ohio River. Marilyn was an animal lover, and volunteered at an animal shelter after retiring as a High School Guidance Counselor. Marilyn and Bob rescued many dogs while living in Milton. Her life will be cherished by her three nieces, Terry Moore (Leonard), Linda Skeene (Gary), and Connie Guild (Dave), and their children and grandchildren. Her cousins, classmates, neighbors, and friends enriched her life, and brought her great joy. After living over 45 years in Milton, KY, Marilyn lived her last five years at Magnolia Springs East, a senior living community, where she made many friends. The staff at Magnolia Springs East supported her and allowed her to maintain most of her independence, and we are so grateful for their care, including their compassionate care near the end of her life on this earth. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Rae Westcott Thomson, her brother-in-law Alva Thomson, and Bob's twin brother, Alan Smith. At Marilyn's request, there will be no visitation, and funeral services will be private. Her ashes will be placed with those of her husband, Robert Smith, at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana. If you wish, the family requests memorial contributions be made to your favorite animal rescue or rehabilitation or conservation efforts.
