Obituary

Miss Marjorie "Gay" Ashby, 96, of Milton, Kentucky, and daughter of the late Paul Tinson and Ada (Thurston) Ashby, was born February 25, 1926, in Milton, KY. She attended Milton school, then achieved her business degree at Spencerian Business College. She attended New York City college classes of her interests.

Gay had an illustrious career which included 6 years with Schenley Distillery, Inc, Lawrenceburg, IN, American Airlines Stewardess, 7 years, American Airlines Stewardess Airlines Supervisor, 3 years, Dallas, Texas.

Gay moved to New York City in 1962 worked with Data Paper Company 10 months in New Haven, Connecticut. She moved to Editorial Coordinator for Popular Science Audiovisuals Inc. for 8 years. In 1970, H.M Stone was formed, an educational filmstrip company with her friends the Stones. After 21 years, instead of retiring she became assistant to the editor of Runner's World Magazine for 13 years. She lived in New York City 42 years but after the Twin Towers were bombed, she came to Louisville, Kentucky to be near family. She lived in Louisville, KY 16 years, then moved back to Milton, KY in Sept. 2021.

Gay loved books, theatre, museums and travel. Some favorite trips were Jamaica, Ireland and Singapore.

Miss Ashby passed away May 22, 2022 at her home in Milton, KY.

Her life will be cherished by her nieces, Charlene Ashby Kelley (Jon Parson), Teresa Ashby Stivers (Bob Stivers), her nephew, Rodney Ashby (Debbie Ashby). Great nieces and nephews. Teena Drake (Eric Drake) their children, Darion, Nancy, Ashby and Nicholas, Scott Stivers (Deena Stivers) Scott's children Jordan,Clay and Trace,Trina Buchanan (Darrell Buchanan), Amy Ashby, Aaron Ashby,Aaron's children, Noah, Leland and Delilah.
Her personal caregivers, Bonnie Raines, Jayme Larrison, Shonnie Hayes, Tammy Bibelhauser, Sherry Cable, Cindy Thurman, Amy Guitterez, Donnie Murphy, Mary Matthews, and many cousins from the Luckett family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Harry Thurston Ashby and sister-in-law, Violet Ashby. Also, her grandparents, Will and Mattie Buchanan Ashby.

Charlene Kelley will conduct funeral services at 3:00 PM Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Lytle Welty Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, on Madison's hilltop with interment to follow in Moffett Cemetery in Milton, Kentucky. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Welty Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 1:00 PM until the time of the service on Tuesday.
