Mark Douglas Johnson, age 70, of Madison, Indiana, and the son of the late JC and Leila (O'Neal) Johnson, was born on February 21, 1953, in Madison. After graduating from Madison Consolidated High School in 1971, he obtained his bachelors degree in music education from Indiana State University and his masters degree in trumpet performance from Butler University. For many years, he served as a music instructor all across the state of Indiana and Kentucky. In 1999, he left teaching to pursue a career in construction and formed MJ's construction. On July 29, 1992, he was united in marriage to the former Connie Richmond at the Broadway Fountain in downtown Madison.
In his spare time, he enjoyed playing the trumpet, teaching private trumpet lessons, and spending time with his grandchildren and attending many of their sporting events. He was one of the founding members of The Doctor's Band and served as the director of the Madison Community Band for over eight years. Most recently, he served on the Madison Performing Arts Foundation. He was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and was currently attending North Madison Christian Church. Mr. Johnson passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023 at the Indiana University Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana.
His life will be cherished by his wife of 30 years, Connie of Madison; his children: Sommer Hancock of Indianapolis, Indiana, Brandon Johnson and his wife, Beth of Madison, Brooke Humphreys and her companion, Johnny Walker, of Bedford, Indiana, Amanda Mullikin and her husband, Alex of Madison, and Kyle Cutshaw and his wife, Melissa of Madison; his sisters: Marcia Trinkle and her husband, Jeff of Columbus, Indiana, Twila Jennings and her husband, David of Bedford, Kentucky, and Gina Williams and her husband, Steve of Anniston, Alabama; his brother: Bach Johnson and his wife, Kim of Madison; his grandchildren: Spencer, Shea, Brogan, Brodie, Kinsley, Coltin, Beezie, Avery, and Rory, and he was expecting another grandson in July of this year; his mother-in-law: Jean Richmond of Milton, Kentucky; his sisters-in-law: Darlene Hewitt of Carrollton, Kentucky, Becky Parsons of Madison, Lynn Webster of Madison, Candy Johnson and her husband, Bumper of Madison, and Stacy Perkins of Milton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joey Johnson.
Pastor Mike Cammack and Pastor Brye Welty will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at the North Madison Christian Church, 1400 East State Road 62, Madison. Friends and family may visit at North Madison Christian Church from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, April 11, 2023, and from 9:00 AM until the time of the service on Wednesday.
