Martha Lucille (Layton) Cooley

Life story Martha L. Cooley, age 79, of Carrollton, Kentucky, formerly of Madison, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Signature Health Care in Carrollton, Kentucky. Born July 25, 1937 in Madison, she was the daughter of Robert and Alfrieda Marcella (Hunter) Layton. She was married to Robert Cooley on July 4, 1959. She worked as a waitress and cook for the former Fiesta Restaurant and Madison Country Club, and enjoyed being a housewife and mother. Mrs. Cooley was a very loving, caring, outgoing and outspoken person. She enjoyed gatherings of family and fiends for any occasion. She loved to cook old-fashioned, home style meals for anyone. She made a habit of collecting whatnots, trinkets or "do-hickeys" as she called them. She mostly enjoyed collecting Hot Wheels cars of the traditional size and scale for her son. She will be sadly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Helen and James Mahon of Carrollton; one son, Darrell Cooley of Carrollton; eight grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on March 31, 2012; one son, Robert Cooley, Jr., one daughter, Marcella Hunter; one brother, Robert Layton; three sisters: Alpha May Hamilton, Clara Gentry and Carol June Whitson; her step-mother, Onnie Layton; and one step-brother, Charles Semon. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, March 17, 2017 at Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Main Street Chapel, 423 West Main Street, Madison.
