Mary Amos Obituary

Mary Irene Amos, age 73, of North Vernon, Indiana, the daughter of the late Wendell and Gertrude (Oxley) Bennett, was born on April 18, 1951, at their home in Vevay, Indiana. During her teen years, she worked with her dad mowing yards and cleaning businesses in Vevay, which is where she developed her strong work ethic. On July 19, 1969, she was united in marriage to Roger Boone and they were blessed with two daughters, Angela and Pamela. She was a 1970 graduate of the Switzerland County High School and was a stay at home mom for many years. Over the years, Mary worked at the U.S. Shoe Factory in Madison, the Ogle Haus in Vevay, and then began a 37 year career with the State of Indiana. First, she began working in 1987 at the Muscatatuck State Hospital until its closing, and then she transferred to Fort Wayne for a short time. It wasn't long until she returned to the Madison State Hospital where she continued to work until her passing.

Mary was the best worker and had a heart of gold. Many people commended her for how sweet and kind she was, and the great care she provided to her patients. In her spare time, she enjoyed shopping, watching television, doing yard work, and spending time outdoors. She made the best pot roast and loved sharing pots of coffee and cinnamon candies. Mary loved her job, coworkers, and patients, but more than anything, she cherished spending time with her family. Mary passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at the Norton Women's and Children's Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

Her life will be cherished by her daughters: Angela Elswick and her husband, James "Jay" of North Vernon, Indiana, and Pamela Boone, of Indianapolis, Indiana; her granddaughters: Shea Mays and her husband, Chad, and Maranda Ater and her husband, Jordan; her sisters: Rose Wilcutts and Deanie Scudder, both of Centerville, Tennessee; her brother: Harry Bennett of Seffner, Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her aunt: Clementine Dykes; and nine of her siblings.
